Companies downsize, fail and announce major lay offs all the time, even online employers. You may think that when you choose a work at home career that such situations will never develop, but this happens very often and you never want to be caught unprepared. A good way to guard against becoming an unemployed worker from home is live by the rule ‘AP’, which simply means ‘always applying’.

While the internet is a vast space, many industries are dominated by a few large companies. Take Cha-Cha, which is an online text based service for instance. Their direct competition is a company named KGB. KGB launched in 2009, and they advertised for workers by targeting the perceived low pay and unfair rules implemented by Cha-Cha. In a nutshell, KGB employs a large amount of disgruntled ex-Cha-Cha workers, and they did this by aggressively pointing on the flaws of their biggest competitor.

Prepare a general work from home resume that highlights your pertinent skills and scour job databases like Craigslist, Backpages and Monster. Even if you aren’t looking to replace your current job, you may be pleasantly surprised if you come across a more suitable online prospect.
